Indonesia ranks as the fourth most populous country globally, with approximately 4.4 million births occurring each year. Infant health, particularly in rural areas, faces significant challenges, ranging from infectious diseases to limited access to medical services. In remote regions like North Sulawesi, geographical barriers compound these issues, leaving numerous families grappling with the devastating consequences of preventable conditions such as hydrocephalus and spina bifida.

In Indonesia, patients and families seeking treatment for hydrocephalus represent up to 50% of all clinic and surgical visits in neurosurgery. However, accessing specialized medical care for hydrocephalus remains an imposing obstacle for many families. Limited healthcare infrastructure, combined with financial constraints and other accessibility barriers, frequently leave families feeling helpless and isolated in their efforts to secure life-saving treatment for their children.

Dr. Abdurrahman Mousa, a pediatric neurosurgeon at General Hospital H. Adam Malik in Medan, North Sumatra, has long acknowledged these challenges and the necessity for innovative treatment approaches in caring for patients with hydrocephalus. Dr. Mousa traveled to Uganda in 2018 and trained with Dr. John Mugamba, learning the Warf method. In 2023, we began a partnership with Dr. Mousa and his institution to provide The Warf Method for children in Indonesia.
