Jordan
Despite its modern infrastructure and advances in healthcare, infant health in Jordan faces challenges stemming from socioeconomic disparities and access to quality care. With a population of over 11 million people, infant mortality rates have improved, though conditions such as hydrocephalus and spina bifida pose a significant challenge. About a thousand babies are affected by hydrocephalus every year in Jordan, and many more refugee children arrive from countries including Syria and South Sudan for specialized services.
NeuroKids began working with the Al Bashir Hospital, the largest public children’s hospital in the capital city of Amman in 2023. Around the region, Al Basheer has a reputation for serving the most vulnerable people, including children and refugees. When Dr. Anas Said, a pediatric neurosurgeon, expressed interest in learning the Warf method (ETV/CPC), NeuroKids mentor, Dr. Samer Elbabaa, a Jordanian-American, conducted the training.
Through its partnership with NeuroKids, Al Bashir Hospital now has upgraded equipment, and increased access to specialized medical resources to treat hydrocephalus. Through this collective action and innovation, we are working toward a future where every child in Jordan has the opportunity to thrive, and Dr. Said and Al Bashir Hospital will serve as a beacon of hope for children and families in neighboring countries.

Dr. Anas Said received his medical degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2008. He initiated his neurosurgery residency training at the Royal Medical Services during his tour with the Jordanian Armed Forces. After his pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Dr. Said returned to his homeland in 2018 to join Al Bashir Hospital.
At Al Bashir Hospital, Dr. Said started the first multidisciplinary clinic for pediatric spasticity and, in 2019, introduced, for the first time in Jordan, selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery.
