John Mugamba, MD

Dr. John Mugamba is a distinguished neurosurgeon known for his expertise and compassionate approach to patient care, as well as his love of training and building the capacity of his colleagues. For more than two decades, Dr. Mugamba has dedicated himself to advancing the field of neurosurgery and improving outcomes for patients with neurological conditions, particularly hydrocephalus and spina bifida.
His pediatric surgery fellowship was under NeuroKids’ founder, Dr. Benjamin Warf, in Mbale, Uganda. Once Dr. Warf left Uganda, Dr. Mugamba assumed the role of medical director at the hospital where they worked. From there, he continued to train colleagues in the Warf Method (ETV/CPC) of treating hydrocephalus.
With a mission to help children with hydrocephalus and spina bifida live longer and better lives, he fervently trains other surgeons in pediatric neurosurgery emergency care, while emphasizing the importance of compassion and understanding toward the unique needs of every child and family.
Dr. Mugamba holds a master’s degree in general surgery from Makerere University in Uganda, and completed his neurosurgery residency training in South Africa. He is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
